Italian residence permits (permesso di soggiorno) expired or expiring between January 31, 2020 and July 31, 2021 have been automatically extended until July 31, 2021.
Travelers with an expiry date of their residence permits between January 31, 2020 and July 31, 2021 flying with direct flights to Italy do not need a re-entry visa.
If transiting via a Schengen State, travelers should apply for a re-entry visa.
If transiting via a non-Schengen State, a consular declaration can be issued by the Embassy of Italy.
