The Ambassador of Italy to Oman, Pierluigi D’Elia, met with the Minister of Heritage and Tourism of the Sultanate of Oman, H.E. Salim Al Mahroqi, to discuss bilateral cooperation in the fields of archaeological heritage and tourism. During the cordial meeting, the significant Italian contribution to the enhancement of Omani historical and archaeological sites and the long-standing cooperation in this field, which began more than 40 years ago, were discussed.
Minister Al Mahroqi thanked the Italian universities present in Oman and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for their support in the numerous archaeological missions active in the Sultanate. In the field of tourism, Ambassador D’Elia highlighted the contribution that Italian companies can make to the numerous projects and initiatives that Oman has launched in this field within the framework of Vision 2040, the economic and social development agenda of the Sultanate. The meeting also provided an opportunity to recall the work in Oman of Italian personalities, such as the architect. Errico D’Errico, very important for the conservation and restoration of historical sites of the sultanate.
